Located in Tongji Town, Pengzhou City, Sichuan Opera Town is located in the Longmen Mountains and near the Jianjiang River, with a total area of 488 mu (about 32.5 hectares). It was built in the 55th year during the reign of Emperor Qianlong (AD 1790), with a history of more than 200 years. Its buildings are scattered at different elevations, and the town is rich in cultures from Qushang city in ancient Kingdom of Shu and Sichuan Opera. It was rated as Chengdu's Famous Historical and Cultural Town in 2011 and Chengdu Characteristic Commercial Street in 2017.

The origin of the name of Haiwozi: First, Yu Fu, the emperor of Shu, established his capital here.  In ancient China, dragon symbolizes emperors. As the saying goes that "The dragon improves himself in the sea", hence the name "Haiwozi". Second, it is related to geography here. There is a cave near the mountain of the Ancient Town, from which a cold spring flowed out all year round. Therefore, local villagers called it "the eye of the sea", namely "Haiwozi".
